Human Harmony

Let humanity be grounded not in physical, political, sexual, or ideological similarity. Rather, let diversity be the jumping off point for unity, dissonance no longer threatening the human tie that binds. Let’s create a playground to explore, to investigate our differences and become comfortable enough in our own skin to not reject each other because of those differences.

The weaving together of strong and opposing yet valid opinions, ideas, and feelings broadens our heart space, and if we allow it, can lead to peaceful cohabitation. Like a stack of multicolored pick-up sticks, or the suits in a deck of cards, we can share similar qualities while maintaining our individual identities.

Secure in identity we feel less threatened by others and safe to join in harmonious camaraderie.

Vocal harmony exists when a range of voices sing together. Allowing various identities to mingle effortlessly among commonalities creates human harmony. In tune with each another, we find solidarity. Solidarity lies in being human light; our one true similarity is that we are all part of universal life spirit, every single one of us. It’s the common thread in the montage of diversity in the world, the marrow that fuses us together.

What if we take the oneness that exists among our differences and use it for unification, manifested through connection? Maybe this thinking is potent enough to alter the trajectory of humankind. More compelling, this is within your power and forever present.

Your ability to commune with any other human being at any given time is unbounded and imperishable. We are connected by an invisible cord that can never be cut.

This energetic connection is within you and everything around you. It is your true nature, and you are free to come into balance with it, into oneness with the universe and all that is. You begin to feel whole when you are in unison with the cosmos, feeling into your cavernous core that there is no separation. Similar to the feeling you get a half hour into your dance fitness class when everyone is synchronized, aligned. (At least that’s what I feel in my dance classes!) Letting social dictations go, your spirit shines. Political, religious, and socio-demographic differences go out the window in exchange for a deeper attachment. The energetic connection becomes tangible, then believable, then trustworthy.

We cannot deny it when we feel it, knowing that nothing can sever the connection or uproot the foundation. This feeling makes us safe in our vessels, joyful in our knowing, and eager to share this enthusiasm with others. (I try not to let it fade as I shampoo my hair after class, alone, endorphins dimming, separation vying to weasel its way back in.)

Since all people populate the same celestial plane, do you believe we are forever connected despite apparent differences? Can you feel the energetic connection between you and the polar opposite of you?

Humans are our friends, not our foes. The only competition we are in is the race for humanity and the enemy is fear. Are you running alongside others, applauding, or are you competing against them, judgment playing defense? The best time to ponder this question is when you are with people who are different than you in every way. Consider it the next time you’re on the baseball field, pushing your child on the swings, on a crowded subway, or browsing the racks at Target. Are you mates or are you rivals with those next to you?

If it feels rivalrous, walk up to them, a smile beaming from your eyes and say hello. Better yet, give them a compliment.

It works. It really does.
